Relay for Life 2012 Recap: The Sights and Sounds
Lane Blood Center’s Team B Positive had our most rocking year at Relay for Life ever! In our eighth year of participation, we raised over $3400 (and counting), helped sponsor the Silent Auction Tent and the newly formed Mascots for a Cure Team, as well as hosted the always-incredible Relay for Life Blood Drive, collecting forty units, seeing many new faces and introducing people to the what Lane Blood Center has been doing in our community for the last fifty-one years!
So not only did we have 24 hours of fun, remembrance and walking, but were also saving lives right there from the Willamette High School track!
Major thanks to our blood donors, team members and the Eugene-Springfield Relay for Life Committee for making this year’s Relay (the eighth largest in the world!) such an amazing experience. A special thank you to Kristi Reeser, RFL Logistics Chair, for her support, enthusiasm and tireless work and Derek Zinser, RFL Activities Chair, for inviting Buddy to join the Mascots for a Cure Team and creating an exciting new avenue for fundraising and fun!
However, none of Team B Positive’s success would have been possible without the leadership, cheerleading and sleepless nights of our Team Captains, Linda Ahern and Bonny Thomas, R.N. Linda and Bonny organized garage and book sales, Curbing for Cancer adventures, weight loss competitions, ugly sweater contests and more. They made sure our team had a wonderfully appointed tent and endless goodies to keep us motivated and moving and proudly carried Team B Positive’s fluffy baton for over 18 miles!
We don’t know how we’re going to top this next year, but we’re committed to doing so and are already brainstorming new fundraising opportunities and activities. We hope you might consider joining us, but until then… give hope, give life, give blood!
