A Family Affair
Patty and Daryl Brisco recently moved to Eugene from Nebraska. They were both regular donors back home and were excited to start donating here. They weren’t sure where to go until Patty received an email through her nursing job at PeaceHealth for the “Give a Pint. Get a Pint.” promotion. “I thought that sounds like fun and forwarded it on to my husband and daughters asking if they’d like to give together” says Patty.
For the Brisco Family giving blood is a tradition, a competition and something they all do regularly. As a nurse, Patty sees the need for blood often and has been doing her part to replenish the blood supply for years. When she married her husband Daryl, she quickly influenced him to become a donor as well. Daryl even gave a kidney to his younger brother! It’s no wonder with parents like Patty and Daryl that their children would become blood donors as soon as they were able. Both Sydney and Allie started giving blood in high school and have continued giving.
They keep each other motivated through their competitive nature. Patty says “we’ll call each other and say ‘I gave blood today, when was your last donation?’ Or ‘I gave double red cells this time, have you done that?'”
The Brisco Family donated together at Lane Blood Center this past Saturday and we were thrilled to have them. Thank you Patty, Daryl, Sydney and Allie for giving your extrordinary gift of blood this holiday season and all year round!
