Do you know that childbearing mothers receive more lifesaving community-donated blood than any other group in Lane County?
WellMama does, and that’s why the nonprofit organization partnered with Lane Blood Center for the second year to host a Mother’s Day weekend blood drive.
“It’s a really nice fusion between what Lane Blood Center does and what WellMama does,” WellMama Executive Director Tatiana Efremova said, as she registered to donate Saturday, May 10.
The Eugene-Springfield organization supports families struggling with emotions related to reproductive health issues, including pregnancy, the first few years postpartum, adoption, infertility, and perinatal loss.
Volunteers and others associated with WellMama donated blood, taking turns watching each other’s children, who played card games and snacked in the Lane Blood Center canteen.
Stella Strother-Blood, a member of the WellMama board, said the two organizations share similar attributes.
“Both are involved in serving the community,” she said. “Blood donors come there and feel a sense of ownership — I’m helping save lives. It’s the same with WellMama. There’s a real sense of community.
“It’s so nice to be able to show Eugene that these kinds of organizations can work together,” she said.
We’re proud to partner with WellMama and can’t wait to see them next Mother’s Day weekend.
Happy Mother’s Day!
